Practice Update 2.0.0 - ELO & EXP System, Practice Cosmetics, New Kits, New Maps, & More!

The long awaited Practice update has arrived! Please read through entirely so you know what's in this update and what's coming soon as well!

EXP

Originally, EXP was a measurement of efficiency + playtime, rather than determined primarily by skill - the exact system and its details were originally instituted to revoke a bit of competitiveness, leading to a reduction of toxicity and more fun. However, this effect was not reached and the lack of competitive edge became a root issue for a lack of consistent playerbase for the Practice server.

Now, we have implemented a new system, where EXP is earned from both the Casual and Competitive (originally “Normal”) queues, and earning EXP can allow you to level up. Each level up you earn “Cosmetic Credits”, which can be redeemed for Practice Cosmetics. These Practice Cosmetics currently include arrow trails, hit effects, and more coming in the future.

Competitive Queue & ELO

In the Competitive queue, we now have ELO! ELO is a system where players can compete against other players with ELO similar to theirs and gradually climb up or down the ladder depending on their skill level. If you win you’ll gain points, and if you lose you’ll lose points. The exact ranking system looks like this:

Dirt: < 500 (players cannot go under 200 ELO)
Bronze I->V: 500 - 999
Silver I->V: 1000 - 1499
Gold I->V: 1500 - 1999
Diamond I->V: 2000 - 2499
Platinum: 2500+

The title for #1 in a kit is “Grandmaster”, and there may be special perks for the player who occupies this position in the future.

For this initial update, the kits offered in the Competitive queue will be BuildUHC, Archer, Pot, and Parkour. As we analyze how full these queues are, we will consider adding more options to the Competitive queue in the future.

There are three requirements to participate in the Competitive queue:

» You must be at least Level 3
»
You must have played at least 10 games in the respective kit you are playing in the Casual queue
» You must have under 500 ping

After completing these requirements, the initial 10 games you play in a kit in the Competitive queue will be placement matches, and your ELO will not be determined until after the 10 matches are completed.

New Kits

We’ve made some additions and adjustments to our kit lineup.

» SG has been added! The classic MCSG gamemode containing a sword, fishing rod, bow, and flint and steel is now playable in the Casual queue.
» Debuff has been removed and NoDebuff has been renamed to Potion. Debuff was our least played kit and Potion is a more straight-forward name than NoDebuff.

We’ve also added 9 new sub-kits, which are kits that can only be playable in requested duels and parties.

» Speed Kit - PvP with a permanent Speed effect.
» Cobweb Kit - PvP with cobwebs to trap your enemies in.
» One Shot One Kill Kit - Insta-kill your enemies with your bow!
» Axe Kit - Axe PvP with golden apples and Health potions.
» Diamond Kit - A simple full diamond kit with a fishing rod.
» Snowball Kit - PvP with LOTS of snowballs.
» Dual Wield Kit - BuildUHC with a fire aspect sword instead of lava buckets.
» Alchemist Kit - Use negative potion effects to hinder your enemy, and melee when needed.
» Classic Kit - A classic full iron kit with a fishing rod and a bow.

New Maps

In our biggest map update ever, we bring to you 25 new maps, and over 15 revamped ones. We’ve taken your feedback for certain gameplay suggestions and have put them into our work.

Click here for a list of our new, revamped, and changed maps.

Maps now also have a time attached to them. If you have Time set to “PER-MAP” in your settings, whenever you play a map the time will change depending on the map time. Otherwise you can change the setting to permanently day, sunset, or night.

Other New Features

»
Lots of new statistics are tracked such as wins, losses, winstreak, match time, etc… all of which are represented in both player stats and leaderboards.
» When dueling a player, you can select which maps you get to play on for the specific kit (default random).
» When in queue, a message is displayed above your hotbar which shows how long you’ve been in the queue, and if it is Competitive, it shows what ELO range you are searching for.
» The scoreboard now displays various statistics which cycle through periodically.
» All GUIs and messages have been redesigned and look much cleaner.
» There are now more sounds attached to certain actions to improve your overall experience.
» There is now a value on the scoreboard that shows the overall amount of people queued.
» The spawn has been tweaked to include some redesigns, more areas to explore, and new easter eggs.
» A [Reset Kit] sign has been added to the kit editor in case players want to return to the original setup or have an issue with their kit.
» Rank colors can now be seen in the tablist.
» In Potion, empty glass bottles now disappear from your inventory after consuming a drinkable potion, and the enderpearl cooldown now shows in your EXP bar.
» New settings including particle visibility, time setting, allowing spectators, and sidebar visibility.

Tweaks

»
SkyWars now includes a bow, 16 arrows, and 16 eggs and snowballs.
» Knockback has been further optimized for all kits.
» Players in a match can only see each other in the tablist.
» Flatland + villages can no longer be seen outside of the maps.
» Your opponent’s health both on tab and underneath their name is now out of 100 instead of 20.

Bug Fixes

»
Players can no longer be invincible to secondary damage while sitting in lava.
» Rod tricking is no longer ineffective.
» The “Playing” value on the scoreboard now represents an accurate count.
» /unspec no longer breaks.
» The pearl cooldown in Potion no longer breaks.
» You can no longer move before the match begins.
» Patched various map exploits (especially for Sumo maps).

Unavailable Features

Due to certain circumstances, there are certain features that could not be fully implemented and will be coming out in the coming update(s).

» Parties - Parties are currently not functional, we’ll be working hard on making sure they’re back up and running without the ridiculous amount of bugs within them previously.
» Inventory Viewing - We'll be releasing this with parties.
» Best of - In duels, an option that says Bo1, Bo3, Bo5, or Bo7 will be selectable, and the duels will continue until one of the players wins a majority of the matches.
» Practice Cosmetics (Winner Effects, Archer Armor, and Weapon Names) - In the coming updates there will be more Practice Cosmetics which you can spend your Cosmetic Credits on.
» Web Leaderboards & Player Stats - As we await to revamp certain designs on our website, the leaderboards and player statistics will be temporarily unavailable for viewing.

Please understand that while Practice is within its early stages of its 2.0 release, there may be frequent restarts to apply hot fixes on the server for bugs.
If you happen

Hope you enjoy this update!
